The Faculty of Science and Technology of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano was founded in 2007, and since then it has grown rapidly by recruiting highly qualified scientific staff from abroad and from Italy, expanding the teaching offer to the Master and PhD levels, developing a range of local, national and international scientific cooperations, and enlarging its research facilities.

A wide range of scientific areas is covered by our institution, encompassing agricultural and environmental science, industrial engineering as well as basic disciplines. Our main distinguishing feature is the interdisciplinary approach, essential for solving complex problems, such as the management of mountain areas, energy efficiency, food production and quality, and process and product innovation for industry.

The intensity of the research undertaken, the quality of our publications and the international profile of our academic staff all contribute decisively to the quality of our teaching and allow the Faculty to attract significant research funding from national and international agencies. At the same time we are deeply rooted in the local social community and are closely linked to the local economic sectors, aiming to contribute to its progress by creating and transferring new scientific and technological knowledge.

The contribution provided within the project MONALISA addresses expertise from the agriculture, forestry and industrial research areas to identify new concepts of monitoring activities at field scale, considering both physiological aspects of forestry and cultivated crops, and management aspects related to field processes carried out by mechanized systems.
